Homework During the Break

I want to wish everyone a happy holidays.  No matter what you do or how you celebrate, this is a time for families and enjoying each others company.  I will not be sending any homework for the winter break, except for some reading.  Each student will be bringing home a Trailblazers Reading Challenge sheet.  Please spend some of every day with a good book in your hands.  Fill out the sheet as you go and there will be a prize (10 Morgan Bucks) for the student who did the most reading.  Have a safe and enjoyable break and I will see you all again on the 3rd of January.

Iroquois Nation

Life in our Mohawk tribe is certainly getting hard.  There seems to be war and attacks happening all over the Iroquois Confederacy.  Our Nation will not survive if we keep going the way we are going.  There has got to be a better way!!!!

Report Cards

There have been some concerns about report card marks.  The standards I am using are end of the year standards.  So when you see "developing" in an area, it is not necessarily an issue at this point.  I discussed many areas at your child's conference.  If they are receiving a "D" in an area I did not discuss with you, it is not a concern at this time, it is just where they stand now in relation to where they should be at the end of the year.

New Homework is Ready

We now have our writing and math homework up and ready.  There are four pages of math and one writing prompt.  Always remember, with your writing, the more details you add, the better your writing will be.  All of this homework will be due on December 9.
Thank you,
Mr. Morgan

The Coming of Spring Brings Enemy Attacks!

It has been quite the week in our Mohawk Village.  We have survived the winter and are moving into Spring.  When we arrived at school today, we discovered that our village had been attacked during the night.  Another tribe had broken down our stockade and kidnapped one of our most honored tribe members, Talks Crazy.  We have no idea who is responsible, but we are working hard to to bring our people home.

Publishing Party

I just wanted to remind everyone that our Storyline culmination/publishing party is Thursday, December 15, at 1:30.  Students will be reading a piece of their writing in front of the audience and, most importantly (in the eyes of your children), there will be snacks at the end.  Invitations will be sent out later but I wanted you to be able to get it on your calendars.  We hope you'll be able to make it!

Friday, November 18, 2011

Just to make things fun for the class, I am initiating a new lottery drawing.  Each Friday kids will be able to use their Morgan bucks and purchase lottery tickets.  I will draw from the tickets and the winner will be able choose the background for our classroom blog.  We should get some pretty interesting backgrounds :)
Mr. Morgan

EDIT:  This week's winner was Luke, who chose the LA Lakers
Just wanted to give everyone a quick update.  The family dance that is scheduled for November 18, has been canceled.  It will be rescheduled for sometime in February.

Wednesday, November 16, 2011

I just wanted to let you know that if you need to send me an email, you can click on my profile on the left side of the page and there is an email link available.
I thought I'd give you all a little change of pace.  Enjoy our Cowboys look for awhile.  Once the Ducks beat the Beavers, I'm sure we'll see a return of the QUACK :)

New Writing Homework

I would like to thank everyone for visiting my blog.  As I get more proficient at this, I think it will work very well for all of us.  I have updated our writing homework.  With the short week next week, our homework will not be due until December 2nd.  This is more work for our Native American unit.  Please have your child pick 2 of the 5 stories posted (they can do more if they want).  They will need to read the story and then print and fill out the last two pages.  They are questions that can be answered from the story.  The last page they will need to do a comparison between our Mohawk tribe and whichever story they read. Math will be posted by tomorrow evening.

Tuesday, November 8, 2011

I have added a link for Everyday Math in the "Math Websites" section on the right side of the page.  This is a website that is created by the publishers of our district math curriculum.  This has games and work that is directly from the work we do in class.  There will be little cards going home with each student today that has their login and password information. Please tape this card to the inside of their homework folder so they do not loose them.  The "login" and "username" are the same thing.
Please use as much as you would like.

Mr. Morgan

On the right side of the blog, you will see the links for our writing and math homework.  You can click on the links and then print out the homework.  Please return the completed homework in their homework folders on the date specified.
At the bottom of the page I have also added our vocabulary that we are working on for the week.

Thank you,
Mr. Morgan
We will be having a  Publishing Party on December 15th at 1:40.  We will be celebrating our writing with our friends and family.  You are more than welcome to join us.  There will be writing that we have done in conjunction with our Native American unit.  We will send more information as the time gets closer.

Mr. Morgan

Welcome to our new website

I would like to thank everyone for visiting our new classroom website.  We will try to keep everyone updated as to what is happening in our classroom as well as homework for the week.  This is a new experience for me so please be patient as I work my way through this process.  I would like to give a special "thank you" to Megan Arbuthnot for the extra help she has given towards this web page.  She will also help me keep our homework assignments up to date :)

Thank you,
Mr. Morgan
