Hurricane Sparky Video

Hurricane Sparky made landfall with devastating effects.  Homes and buildings were destroyed, yet some did survive the high winds, flying debris, and huge storm surge.

Homework

The new homework is now up and ready for you to download.  Hurricane Sparky hit today with the full force of Mother Nature.  We had a blast.  Using leaf blowers and a hose, we simulated a severe hurricane.  Some of our houses stood up very well, while some of them... not so much.  I will be posting pictures and video as soon as I can.

Hurricane Sparky!!!

Hurricane Sparky has been detected off the coast of India.  We have recently been in Calcutta helping the people design and build better hurricane proof houses.  The houses have been build and secured and are awaiting their first real test.  Hurricane Sparky is a tropical storm right now, but meteorologists expect it to build to a category 4 storm by the time it reaches India.  Landfall is expected to be around Friday afternoon!  Hold on tight, it's gonna be a wild ride!!!!

Portland Winterhawks Tickets

Just an announcement that Miss Jaques has a friend who would like to donate some Winterhawks tickets to families here at Sexton Mountain.   The tickets are for a game on Monday February 20th at 3:00.  This is Presidents Day so there is no school.   If you would like to get some of these tickets, please contact Miss Jaques as soon as possible.  We have a link to her classroom blog on the left side of our blog here.

Homework

This week's homework is now up and ready for you to download.  The kids are doing great with their hurricane proof houses.  We've had several kids build at home and bring in, and they are all working great in their groups in the classroom.  We have a lot of great imaginations and it is really showing.

Lit Project

The new lit project is now up on the blog.  They have 3 weeks for this, it will be due on February 24th.

Disasters!!!

We have started our World Tour.  We are traveling the world studying natural disasters.  We have already taken a look at tornadoes and now we are getting into hurricanes.  The kids have had a lot of fun discovering facts and information about natural disasters.  Here are a few pictures of our disaster wall showing our class tornado poster as well as our world map showing where these disasters can take place.
